This book's intention is to teach the basis of what makes possible web development in java - servlets. It is important to first learn database web development using plain servlet technology and then step into JSP, JSF, JPA, Hibernate, etc. This book requires previous knowledge of Java and HTML and it would be good if the reader has taken an introductory tutorial on servlets though maybe that's not strictly necessary. The author succeeds in its goal.

But... what makes me angry is that most books on programming offer the reader the code for free on a website where one can download it freely. This author does not allow for access to the code on this version, and I'm still in the process of typing the code for the web app #3, no funny task since the code is extensive and highly prone to typing errors. So I hope the author abandon this policy and offer the code for free to anyone who purchases any of the book versions. Besides, the code in the book have some errors (minor) which the reader have to detect and correct himself.
